The camera button is the biggest feature that differentiates Apple's new battery cases from the models it's released in years past. When pressed, the button launches the camera whether the phone is locked or unlocked.
Spotted by 9to5Mac super sleuth Guilherme Rambo, Apple has accidentally left references inside the latest iOS 13.1 beta release confirming the company is preparing to launch a new iPhone 11 range of smart battery cases. And I suspect they will change a lot.
Given iOS is now only for iPhones and the iPod touch, that presumption is safe. But why would Apple need new smart battery cases given the iPhone 11 design has barely changed since the iPhone X? Because the new models are thicker and the rear cameras have a much larger protruding hump.
The market for iPhone battery cases is fairly saturated by competitors like mophie, but we usually prefer the Apple Smart Battery Cases anyways. That's because of the smart integration in iOS itself, allowing you to see the case battery charge level in the Batteries widget. And now with a dedicated camera button, it has set the bar even higher.
The iPhone 11 line of smart battery cases are compatible with Qi-certified chargers. At maximum charge, the cases can give up to 50 percent longer battery life. There's an integrated feature that shows the battery status on the lock screen and Notification Center, which isn't available with non-Apple battery cases.
As far as the additional battery life goes, Apple's new smart cases are compatible with Qi-certified chargers. Apple claims when the case is fully charged it delivers up to 50% longer battery life. Users, however, can also use USB-PD compatible chargers for faster charging of the cases. The new smart cases are also compatible with other Lightning accessories including EarPods with lightning connector.
The iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max cases promise up to 50% longer battery life. Inside, there is a soft microfiber lining, and on the outside, the silky, soft-touch finish of the silicone exterior offers a better grip. A soft elastomer hinge design makes it easy to put the case on and take it off, says the company. The case features a dedicated camera button that launches the Camera app whether the iPhone is locked or unlocked. A quick press of the button takes a photo and a longer press captures QuickTake video. It works for selfies, too. 2b1af7f3a8
